Watford Borough Council and Groundwork East are delighted to invite residents, community groups and visitors to a special event celebrating the remarkable achievements of the Tales of the River project – a community-driven initiative uncovering the hidden stories, history and natural heritage of the River Colne.

Thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the support of National Lottery players, the project has brought people together to explore the rich past and bright future of one of Watford’s most important natural landmarks. Through storytelling, historical research, school workshops, art and local engagement, Tales of the River has reconnected residents with their local environment and helped build a deeper sense of pride and place.
The upcoming event will be a fun and festive celebration of everything the project has achieved.

From local schools to volunteers and heritage experts, so many people have played a part in telling the story of the River Colne. This event is our chance to say thank you and to come together in celebration of everything the project has achieved.”
Cllr Ian Stotesbury, Portfolio Holder for Sustainability and Transport, said: “It’s been inspiring to see the creativity and passion that the community has poured into this project. The River Colne runs through our town’s history and through the hearts of so many people. This event is not just a celebration – it’s a reminder of what we can achieve when we work together. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to The National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery Players for making this project possible.”
The event is free to attend, and everyone is welcome. Bring your family, bring your neighbours – and join us for a fantastic day of heritage, community and celebration.
